You can lead and atheist to evidence but you can’t make him think
So I thought I’d give this video blog thing a go.
Yes, I realise that I’m giving him the publicity he wants, but I just couldn’t resist making fun of him. Oh, and here’s that post on Pascal’s wager I talk about in the video.

funny part was I thought you posted the video to make fun of the guy in the video, I didn’t realize it was you. Sorry about that.

Hahaha. Love the withering look you give the camera after pronouncing the title.
More reviews, please.

I’ve been dying to watch this ever since you posted it, but never had a spare moment – I love it! The withering look mentioned above is indeed an excellent freeze-frame moment.
Do you think that taking up atheism as a position is in some way accepting that there are opposing viewpoints to be argued against and debated? I often think that atheism is too conversational a stance to be taken on the god-or-not line of philosophical thought – like arguing for the existence of gravity or the sun, as though any contrary position was worth the effort of discussion.
I suppose my ill-framed question is: is atheism worth the effort?
By the way: excellent haircut. M-town is doing you proud.

Franzy – in short, yes. You don’t have to argue that gravity exists because few people question it’s existence. Take another equally valid theory though, like evolution, and a lot of people think it’s bullshit.
I get what you are saying, having a debate against such an absurd position can be a waste of time. I guess what you are really asking is what is the best way of convincing people to question the bullshit? Debating the bullshitters? Using reason to appeal to the people in the middle who haven’t made up their minds? Shoring up the community of people who are already on your side? I don’t know the answer to these questions. All I do know is that making videos attacking Ray’s book is fun.
I’ll let you in on a secret though – I actually respect Ray a lot more than the other evangelists. He’s not targeting the people in the middle who can’t decide. He is going after the big prize, the people who are adamant in their lack of belief, because he doesn’t want us to burn in hell forever. You have to respect his motivations, even if you ridicule his arguments.

daniel – you did make me laugh, thanks.
i have to say though, i actually would have liked to know a little more about what’s in the book – call me boring
franzy: i like your question, my answer would be: spend as much time as you feel is right learning and thinking about this issue discussing it, etc. and then get on with the rest of your life!
the only thing wrong with atheism is its name, as i am not without g-d, there just is no g-d. (but notice i can’t drop the jewish convention of not spelling out the word fully. i can only conclude i have concern for the feelings of those who believe in g-d without wishing to ram it down my throat.)
