There’s no skatin’ here

In my last post I decried self obsessed hip hoppers and begged that they instead try to identify with their audiences. This is a perfect of example of what I have been looking for:

Every time I hear Lupe Fiasco’s Kick, Push, I remember the days of my youth spent attempting to skateboard, or otherwise running and mountain-biking around with my friends. And apart from the brief mention of his stage name in the song’s intro, it remains brag free. It’s all about the feeling – Lupe is sharing this song with you, not shouting it at you.

Here’s hoping the rest of his work is just as good.
